Diner Journal

Seriously contemplating getting a subscription. Anyone have anything to say about theirs? Of course we're big fans of Marlow & Sons.

Science

Scientific illustrations and diagrams are our favorite. These botany and zoology posters can fetch $200+ on eBay and other vintage shops. Nice to know The Evolution Store in SoHo stocks a whole bunch for under $100. We are of course partial to the hedgehog and coffee. But the jellyfish and dandelion are the most beautiful.

This is from the website of Coralie Bickford-Smith, who designed 10 Penguin Classic book covers exclusively for UK bookseller Waterstone. (BTW the covers are marvelous - via Design*Sponge.)

It reminds us of how much we love curated spreads of well-designed book covers worthy of being hung like art:

Oatmeal

Just wanted to profess to the world... oatmeal is one of the most underrated foods. It's so simple yet requires care and thought to get it right so that it actually tastes good. First step in your discovery of oatmeal is to use steel cut oats.

Oatmeal is not an appealing choice when you're out for brunch (we always indulge with eggs benedict or french toast) but it's an uncomplicated daily staple that doesn't require you to think. Just ingest and you're instantly nourished.

We like 'wichcraft's with cinnamon brown sugar butter, toasted nuts (pecans, whole almonds, hazelnuts) and dried fruit (cranberries, raisins and golden raisins). Still trying to recreate it here at the studio.

Pieces

So obvious we would be drawn to this pattern. It's a commission by Julia Rothman for Hygge & West. We like Rothman's work for being colorful and whimsical without being cartoon-like and garish. She has a way of keeping it very elegant and accessible. This wallpaper is like a super grown-up version of her work - stripped away to the bare minimum of black & white and straight lines. As a whole, it's complex, textural and beautiful.

We miss this a lot

Once upon a time we lived in a far away land called Copenhagen. From an outsider's perspective, living in CPH was a bit like living in a glossy magazine, which has its ups and downs. Either way you cannot deny the pleasing aesthetics and effortless style that becomes permanently ingrained in your head - it's something you did not know was missing in your life before you got there and something you end up longing for when you leave.

Now, we wistfully browse Copenhagen Cycle Chic [via my friend Melissa awhile ago] and try to visit friends when the exchange rate is not so horrendous. Living there forever was definitely not in the cards for us but what we take away is a certain quality and efficiency of life in which to maintain and pass on.

Photos above from last summer's visit.
